Scholarships & Awards

The A.C.N.M. Foundation Varney Leadership Award is given to two basic midwifery student members of ACNM to support their participation in a unique mentored student leadership experience. 

Award recipients attend leadership conferences and perform leadership activities. Mentorship is led by Maria Valentin-Welch, CNM, DNP, MPH, CDP, FACNM, along with past Varney Award winners. 

The award covers the cost of any conference registrations plus hotel/housing accommodation. This student experience is made possible through the generous financial support of Helen Varney Burst, MSN, CNM, DHL (Hon.), FACNM. 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: 

• Be enrolled as a student in good standing in an ACME-accredited or pre-accredited basic midwifery education program
• Have successfully completed one academic semester or quarter/term
• Be a current member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM)
• Agree to complete a brief data collection form within one year, if an award is received
• Not a prior recipient of this award
