Training for Registered Nurses: Intrapartum Sterile Speculum Exam and Specimen Collection

PURPOSE:


We invite you to participate in this complimentary webinar for RNs working with pregnant women. The purpose of this educational program is to provide the nurse with the knowledge needed to perform Intrapartum Sterile Speculum Examinations (IP-SSE). 


This webinar, focused on acquiring new knowledge, provides the basic information needed for the nurse to engage in further training to gain the skills needed to gather specimens during sterile speculum examination. Important information on assessment of the intrapartum patient is included. 


The program also guides the viewer through the step-by-step examination, including helpful insights to the procedure.


OBJECTIVES:


At the end of the educational activity the nurse will be able to identify:


  • Indications for Sterile Speculum Exam (SSE).
  • Contraindications for SSE.
  • Equipment needed.
  • Proper examination technique.
  • Anatomy of the vulva and perineum.
  • Interventions that enhance quality of care and outcomes, including applicable principles of trauma-informed care and awareness of racial disparities in healthcare.


SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION AND AWARD OF CE CREDIT:


Successful completion will lead to the award of continuing education credit and a certificate of completion.  Each participant must demonstrate successful completion as follows:


  • View the presentation.
  • Submit a short evaluation of the program and its effectiveness.
  • Complete the 12-question post-test with a passing score of 80% or greater.


Upon successful completion of the post-test, your certificate of completion will be available. You may save it to your computer or print it out at that time.
