Scholarships & Awards

The Bonnie Westenberg Pedersen International Midwife Award honors the memory of Bonnie Westenberg Pedersen, Founder and Director of ACNM’s Special Projects Section, by providing an award to an international midwife to encourage them to follow Bonnie’s path of leadership, vision, and significant contributions to the profession of midwifery and international reproductive health, particularly in economically developing countries. 

Having been recognized for outstanding work in their home country to make birth safe for mothers and babies, recipients of this award receive a scholarship to attend the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) Annual Meeting & Exhibition and a certificate recognizing this award.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: 

• Be a midwife from an economically developing country who is licensed or certified by region, state or country. 
• Meet the classification of a midwife as designated by the ICM International Definition of the Midwife. 
• Have membership in a midwifery association or reside in a country that has membership in ICM. 
• Be a mid-career professional with at least 5 years of maternal/child health experience. 
• Have demonstrated evidence of leadership and vision through a local, regional, or national health organization, such as a ministry of health, INGO/NGO, professional association, etc. 
• Show potential to make significant contributions to women and children’s health over the next 10 years. 
• Have a valid Passport and be eligible for a Visa should a Visa be necessary. 
• Be able to communicate fluently in English.
